What are your office hours?

What is your mission? 

We believe everyone should have access to art and culture, whether it be grass roots or nationally acclaimed. We want Oak Room to be so much more than just a venue. We want to develop a cultural movement in Tiverton, supporting and mentoring and championing arts for all. 

What qualifies you to do this? 

Rachel has many years of social entrepreneurship - from tourism to food, capital development and buildings through to arts and culture. She is a School of Social Entrepreneurs graduate and a fellow of Royal Society of Arts.  She is a founding director of Onion Collective, delivering the flagship £7M development East Quay, from concept through community consultation, strategic development, funding and business planning to design and planning submission. project managing the build and onto delivery. 

 

​VENUE HIRE FAQS 

When is your venue available to hire?

We are very flexible. You can hire parts or all of the building - with a min. two hour hire period. There is an additional fee for going past 10pm.  

Do I have to sign a contract?

Yes - you can see a copy of the agreement here or download hirer agreement here. If you are unsure about anything in this agreement just give us a call and we can talk you through it.

What kind of events are you suitable for? 

The space is ideal for meetings, parties, performances, music, exercise classes, workshops, dances and most other kinds of entertainment or celebration. Our space is not currently licensed but there are limited number of Temporary Entertainment Licences (TENs) available to the Hall each year, but these need to be arranged by hirers personally after discussion with the Team, as it will depend on whether we are running the bar for you. We can help you with TENs and the cost to Mid Devon District Council is £24. . For more information on TENS visit the Mid Devon Website

Is the venue fully accessible to all? 

We are sorry to say that it is not wheelchair friendly - due to the three steps up into the main building. The metting room is also downstairs. It is a listed building so we are unable to do anything at present to make the building more accessible.

I am I allowed any set up/clear time?

Strictly speaking we do not allow setup/tidying time and you should ensure you factor this into the booking time. But in reality we can be flexible depending on other bookings and our availability. 

Who sets up the tables and chairs etc?

It is the hirer's responsibility to set up and clear up the tables and chairs.

Do you provide catering?

We can discuss your catering needs and see what we can do. We also allow you to bring in your own catering. We have a bar we can run for your event and coffee machines on  site too. The bar is upstairs in the main hall and the coffee and cafe bar is downstairs in the meeting room. 

What is the parking like?

There is no parking available on site. s. There is on street parking around the building but please check restrictions in advance. There is a car park at The Pannier Market (3 minute walk EX16, 6NH)  and the Multistorey (5 minute walk EX16 6LU). Tiverton Bus depot is a 5 minute walk and Tiverton Train station is approx 10 minutes by taxi and 25 minutes on the 363 bus. 

​​What is the capacity of the space?

The hall has a maximum capacity of 100 people.

What is the size of the main space and stage?

The size of the main hall is 17 metres in length and 12 metres in width and the stage is approx 3.5 by 3.5 metres. 

What is the size of the meeting room?

The size of the hall is 9 metres in length and 8 metres in width and includes a long serving bar.

What kind of tables do you provide?

Rectangular tables – Size: 8ft x 3ft

Round wooden banqueting tables – Size: 3.5ft in diameter.

Do you have a music cut off time?

Yes, as we are in a residential area, we ask you to turn down music at 10pm and off by 10.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.

​​Can I decorate the space?

We are happy for you to decorate the hall but must ask you to ensure walls/paintwork are not damaged. Please do not use pins or sellotape. Use of blutak is acceptable.

Please note that we DO NOT allow use of helium balloons.

Who cleans the space after my event?

The hirer is responsible for tidying the space after an event, please leave it as you find it. You will need to bring bin bags and cleaning spray; cloths etc please.​

Who disposes of rubbish after my event?

We do not guarantee space in our bins for you rubbish, in which case you will be asked to take it with you.  In any event, we do not take glass bottles, please take these with you to recycle yourself.
